The news that Mike Trout has an injured hand, specifically a sprained right index finger, is not good news for the Los Angeles Angels who have been using the superstar as a designated hitter the past two games and likely will again as the Angels take on the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday evening. Trout has been putting up unreal numbers in June, including a .684/.750/1.368 last week.

ESPN.com's Alden Gonzalez noted the Angels announced that Trout's sprained right index finger will be re-evaluated "in a few days" and until then, he'll not play center field thanks to his inability to effectively throw the ball from that position. Trout said it "felt really sore" during a simple game of catch but it shouldn't keep him from taking at-bats for the Angels who are unsure of just how the injury occurred.

For now, the team is playing things safe and asking him not to throw the ball for the time being, knowing they are fortunate enough that he can stay in their lineup as a DH.

Trout is enjoying another fantastic season, hitting .332/.471/.683 with 23 home runs and 48 RBI and is likely a sure thing for the All-Star game schedule on July 7, 2018, this season. Still, this injury, if serious, may damper his chances at winning a Gold Glove, which he was on pace to potentially be in the conversation for this season considering he is fourth among American League outfielders with seven defensive runs saved. It would be the first time in his career that he'd be a Gold Glove winner.

For the Angels, missing Trout defensively could become an issue. The team is six games out of a playoff spot in the AL and using Chris Young and Michael Hermosillo in center field to cover for the absent Trout.
