As the Arizona Cardinals wrap up another dreadful season, the focus shifts towards the future of wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, as the 36-year-old once again considers retirement.

Sunday's contest with the Los Angeles Rams marks the Cardinals' final home game of 2018. That means the folks in Arizona may be witnessing Fitzgerald's last game at State Farm Stadium.

However, the future Hall of Famer isn't sure yet if he will be performing his final act in Arizona this Sunday. Talking to Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic, Fitzgerald wouldn't give any hints about his playing future, and if Sunday is truly his last home contest.

"It may. It may not," Fitzgerald said. "NFL careers end every Sunday. I'm just blessed to be able to play the game I love."

Fitzgerald also emphasized that if he were to play in 2019, it would only be for the Cardinals. That shuts down the possibility of him joining a title contender and compete for a Super Bowl championship - the only thing missing on his legendary career. His contract runs up after this season, and if he stays in Arizona, it would certainly be at a hometown discount price, for just one-year deal.

Unless he really turns it on in the final two games, Fitzgerald will fail to reach 1,000 yards in receiving for the first time since 2014. He has just 59 receptions for 645 yards and five touchdowns, so it's no secret that Fitzgerald is beginning to show his age a bit.

But he's a tremendous locker room leader and can be a big part of their rebuilding process again in 2019. The Cardinals will never stop being loyal to Fitzgerald, so he'll decide when it's time to leave, not the organization.

What This Means

Fitzgerald will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. He's been the model of consistency for a decade and a half, and it'd be disappointing if his career ended in a dismal three-win season.

But as the case was last offseason, nobody knows what Fitzgerald will do until he makes the final announcement.
