Cody Rhodes made some interesting comments at an AEW Double or Nothing press and fan conference heading into the company's big weekend.

As AEW prepares to make history on Saturday with their first-ever PPV, there are plenty of items to note going into Double or Nothing. Essentially, for wrestling fans, this Saturday marks the day that everything changes. Prior to Double or Nothing, there was only talk of AEW. After Double or Nothing, wrestling will be forever different. With that on people's minds, the news keeps rolling in.

AEW Signs Deal Malenko

It was announced on Friday that AEW has snagged another important piece to ensure their company has experience and wisdom behind future events and production. The new promotion has signed former WWE producer Dean Malenko to a multi-year contract. His title will be that of a Senior Producer and Coach.

They wrote in their press release:

Las Vegas, NV (May 24, 2019) – AEW today announced a multi-year deal with world-renowned coach, producer and wrestler Dean Malenko. Effective immediately, the former No. 1-ranked wrestler in the PWI (Pro Wrestling Illustrated) 500 will take on the role as Senior Producer / Coach.

Malenko, who spent the past 18 years producing and coaching some of the biggest starts in wrestling, a second-generation wrestler trained by his father, the acclaimed Boris Malenko. Malenko’s impact will be immediate as he joins AEW this weekend at DOUBLE OR NOTHING, the highly-anticipated event on Saturday, May 25, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Cody Rhodes said of the signing, “He’s the perfect fit for our sports- centric mentality, and his experience will be invaluable for our team. Welcome Coach!”

Malenko said of working with AEW, "The freedom to be able to contribute uninhibited will only lend itself to foster creativity and produce an outstanding product. I’m excited about what the future holds for AEW, and I can’t wait to be a part of the journey.”

AEW Press Conference On Friday

AEW has announced they will hold a Double or Nothing Press Conference and Weigh In later today at 7 pm ET and it will stream for free on FITE. As they are doing with their keeping of stats that cover wins and losses, the weigh-ins are meant to give the events more of an MMA or boxing-type feel and build anticipation for the matches on the card.

AEW is really going all-in on the idea that while this is a "wrestling show" the feeling is that it's a real sports competition.

Cody Takes Unwarranted Shot at Bayley

During a press conference in which Cody and The Young Bucks answered questions from fans, Cody took a strange shot at WWE Superstar Bayley. Cody said when talking about one of his own female signings (Kylie), “What a ball of emotion, and that’s what we wanted. And she’s not like whacky inflatable tubmen pretending to be nice.”

It's not clear as to why Cody took a shot specifically at Bayley, but it might not have had anything to do with her personally but the kid-like audience her character was trying to reach.

What This Means

There is sure to be more news that rolls in. As we get it, we'll update this post. Keep refreshing to get the most recent updates on what could be one of the biggest events in wrestling history.
