LeBron James may have gotten his relationship with LA fans off to a rocky start. After teasing he would be at a pizza party he helped promote, James no-showed, leaving hundreds of fans in line waiting to meet their newest Laker hero.

James doesn't owe anyone anything. He didn't promise to be at the Blaze Pizza location he name-dropped on his Twitter account, the business he's heavily invested in gave out tons of free pies and Laker fans will forgive him when he starts to showcase his talents and he pours in MVP-caliber performances. Still, if he wants to be embraced before he ever laces up his extremely expensive and custom sneakers, he should consider not toying with his new fanbase.

After a tweet James sent out on July 9, fans flooded Blaze Pizza locations all around LA, specifically the Culver City location, in hopes they might get a glance at LeBron. After all, why mention the location, the party itself or hint to watch for him if he was never going to go?

Hundreds of fans waited in line, armed with shoes and other memorabilia ready to see the basketball megastar believing he was a man of his word. Likely nothing more than a smart marketing idea for a business he's part owner of, James never actually showed up. Fans got free pizzas, some didn't leave hungry, but they waited in line for hours, many of whom could have cared less about the food. To say the least, they were not impressed.

Fans took videos and photos while in line showing just how long the wait was and how much anticipation had built that James might pop in. He'd shown up at Blaze locations before and to them, it was simple: show up, send some love to your new city and legion of fans and thank them for their support as they wait for him to play basketball for their team.

That must not have been LeBron's plan.

To make matters worse, it was learned LeBron wasn't going to show when his wife posted a pic of the NBA star at the pool on Instagram. As a result, an eager crowd turned into an angry one. One Twitter user wrote, "It's 5:00. The free pizza event at BlazePizza is over. LeBron is not here. The "line" has turned into a mob around the front door. People are hungry. People are upset. People are asking. "Why?"

Not long after, that same Twitter user posted LeBron's cheeky pool pic.

One has to assume LeBron never meant for this to turn into such a scene. That said, perhaps he quickly needs to learn he can't tease his fanbase and expect a free pass.

His arrival in LA is no joke and fans are ready to embrace him. Pulling at their heartstrings is probably not the ideal way to kick things off.
