Say what you will about Le'Veon Bell's decision not to suit up for the Steelers while a contract dispute rages on between him and the Pittsburgh brass. He's angered fans and some teammates after sitting out the exhibition rounds and the first four weeks of the regular season.

But guess what? Bell isn't laughing either, especially over what happened to a Seattle Seahawk who had a similar contractual quarrel but decided to play anyway. That would be the team's safety Earl Thomas, who broke his left leg while playing against the Cardinals on Sunday, in a game Seattle won 20-17.

When Thomas was being carted off the field, he may have been in agony over what is certain to be a season-ender, but not enough to flip the bird, presumably in the direction of the Seahawks brass. With Thomas out of action, the team will not only miss the safety, whose performance has been superb up until the injury, it certainly will result in his stock tumbling at the negotiating table.

It was a situation that Bell couldn't resist jumping on via social media.

"SMH [shaking my head] exactly... get right bro bro @earl!" Bell posted (and screenshotted by MSN). "I'll continue to be the 'bad'guy' for ALL of us."

Bell's decision has divided football fans in Pittsburgh, which currently has a record of 1-2-1 and it can be argued that his absence in the lineup might be a factor for their performance so far. Meanwhile, Seattle sits at 2-2 and while it's debatable how much of their record has to do with the contributions made by Thomas, he's been praised for at least being a team player despite his contractual differences. Obviously, that has changed.

On the other hand, Bell is healthy and wants to stay that way, especially when you consider the fact that he's only 26 and has a few years left before he hangs up his helmet. Sure he's taking flack for not supporting a team that's balking at how much return they'll still get out of the veteran, but he's definitely in better shape than Edwards right now. Obviously, not only physically, but strategically as well.

After the dust settled once the extent of Thomas's injury was determined, probably the most balanced perspective on the whole situation can from a tweet by Seahawks teammate Bobby Wagner.

"If he doesn't come, then he's not a team player," posted Wagner about Thomas. "If he does come and gets hurt, then it's 'He shouldn't have came.' If I was him I'd be pissed off."
