With the transfer deadline looming, Manchester United look set to have one last crack at signing Harry Maguire from Leicester City.

Jose Mourinho has been very downbeat about the upcoming Premier League season for Manchester United. The Red Devils have been on a pre-season tour of the United States and the boss has been telling the press of his disappointment with some of his players and that he believes the 2018/19 campaign, which begins for United this Friday, is going to be a difficult one.

Whether Mourinho's whining is real concern or just the latest of his mind games remains to be seen. It's hard to imagine that United will struggle to finish in the Premier League top four, at least, with the squad it currently has. The Portuguese manager is still looking to add to that squad too, but with the transfer deadline now just three days away, he will have to act fast.

The one spot on the teamsheet that Mourinho seems desperate to fill is center back. According to Sky Sports, despite the hefty price tag put on him by his current club Leicester City, United and Mourinho are going to have one more run at Harry Maguire. While the exact asking price is unclear, United will apparently have to break the transfer record for a defender in order to sign him. That number currently stands at a little under $100 million.

If Mourinho can't persuade Leicester to sell Maguire to United, then there are a couple of other targets on his radar that likely won't cost him as much. Tottenham Hotspur's Toby Alderweireld and Barcelona's Yerry Mina, two other players who impressed at this summer's World Cup. Mourinho wants someone though and clearly doesn't believe that his current center backs are up to the challenge of helping to take the Premier League title from Manchester City.

What gives the potential Maguire transfer a little extra edge is United's opponents on the opening day of the season, the England international's current club, Leicester City. The two former Premier League winners will lock horns on Friday and by then, Maguire's fate will have been decided. If a deal gets done in the next couple of days then Maguire could even line up for United against Leicester.
