All-Star shortstop Manny Machado wasted no time leaving a strong first impression in his Los Angeles Dodgers debut on Friday night, going 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and leading the team to a 6-5 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Dodgers acquired Machado from the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday for five prospects, highlighted by outfielder Yusniel Diaz. Machado, entering the final year of his contract, is already putting himself in great position to land a mammoth contract in free agency.

But the Dodgers aren't worried about how much money Machado makes in free agency this winter, but rather if he can help them end their 30-year World Series drought. He's off to an excellent start in a Dodgers uniform, helping them increase their NL West lead to 1.5 games over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Entering play on Saturday, Machado now carries a .318 batting average, 24 home runs, 65 RBI, a .968 OPS and WAR of 3.0. The Dodgers will happily take anything he can give them, as they try to erase the heartbreak of falling one game short in winning the World Series last year.

The Dodgers lost shortstop Corey Seager for the rest of the season in April when it was announced he'd have to undergo Tommy John Surgery. Luckily for the Dodgers, Machado was available via trade, giving them an ideal replacement for Seager throughout the rest of the season.

"I'm relieved. Relieved it finally got done. It's exciting to be here," Machado said, per Bradford Doolittle of ESPN.com. It's a great group. Great organization, with a lot of baseball history. I'll just come here and be myself and try to fit into the club around here."

Machado helped the Orioles reach the postseason in 2012, 2014 and 2016, but they're the worst team in baseball this season. Though he had a memorable tenure in Baltimore, Machado is moving on to the next chapter of his career, which just may mean winning a world championship with the Dodgers.
