Despite previous reports that teams such as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks were pushing hard to land Baltimore Orioles star Manny Machado, it looks like we'll have to wait several more weeks before a trade happens.

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, the Orioles may wait until after the All-Star break to deal their franchise player - who's slated to hit the free agent market this winter.

The All-Star break begins on July 16 and runs through the 18th, though the St. Louis Cardinals-Chicago Cubs are the only game on the schedule on the 19th. The non-waiver trade deadline is on July 31, which gives the Orioles three more weeks to deal their superstar player.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports reported last month that the Dodgers were the frontrunners for Machado, and that the Orioles were scouting L.A.'s farm system. With the Dodgers in good position to make the playoffs once again - and falling just one game short of winning it all last year - it makes plenty of sense for them to go all-in and trade for Machado.

The Orioles enter play on Tuesday with a 25-66 record - the second-worst in all of baseball. With Machado sure to land a contract north of $200 million this winter, the cash-strapped Orioles have no choice but to trade their franchise star away, rather than lose him for nothing.

Machado is by far the best player available on this year's trade market, though fellow Oriole and star closer Zach Britton could also draw plenty of interest. Ditto for Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson - also slated for free agency this winter.

The Machado sweepstakes appear to be coming down to a few teams, and all of them better be ready to part with a handful of great prospects. But players like Machado are rarely available in trades, so now's the time to go for it.
