Markelle Fultz's bizarre NBA career has yielded yet another surprising revelation.

The Philadelphia 76ers guard has been plagued with one of the strangest injury spells in recent memory and was only recently diagnosed, something which should have brought an end to the saga. But he's still quite relevant in the news, and this latest tidbit regarding his seemingly overprotective mother just made things a whole lot weirder.

The Washington Post's Candace Buckner published a profile on the two-year player on Friday featuring comments from several sources close to him. And the piece included a section detailing the measures his mother Ebony took to protect him.

"Fultz is now a professional on a four-year contract worth $33 million, but close associates said Ebony still goes to great lengths to shield him," it reads.

"During Fultz's first season in Philadelphia, Ebony had cameras installed inside his New Jersey home, according to several people familiar with the setup who described the indoor surveillance as unusual. The cameras have since been removed. Multiple people said Ebony has asked some who have dealt with Fultz to sign nondisclosure agreements for reasons that are unclear to them.

"'There's definitely crazy [expletive] going on with the mom and how involved she is and how overprotective she is,' said a person with a close connection to Fultz. 'The best possible situation is if the mom just backs off for a period of time and gives him a chance to breathe.'"

What This Means

Fultz remains out injured after being diagnosed with neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome, a condition which has left him looking like a real bust in Philadelphia despite the team picking him at No.1 in last year's draft.

That his mom would spy on him - if the claims are to be believed - seems to underpin how much of a delicate individual he is.

Hopefully, the Sixers can get the player they bet their future on when he's over his injury. But, for now, we'll just have to deal with the weird news.
