The punter Marquette King seems a little salty about being cut by Oakland and he made it clear posting a video trolling his former coach Jon Gruden shortly after Denver defeated the Raiders.

The Denver Broncos beat the Raiders 20-19 with a last-minute field goal on Sunday, giving the best opportunity to the former Raiders’ punter Marquette King to get revenge against the likely response of his unexpected cut this offseason.

About 90 minutes after the game ended, King posted a video on Twitter that featured a Chucky doll covered in dollar bills – a clear reference to coach Jon Gruden and his 10-year contract – with the caption “Dear BFF... #Part1”.

Oakland released King with no apparent reason after he wore the black and silver for six years. However, at the time, there were a lot of whispers that Jon Gruden had a lot to do with this decision since King’s personality didn’t fit with his old-school mentality.

When the most popular punter in the NFL signed with Oakland’s divisional rivals, the Denver Broncos, he declared that there was a “revenge factor in his decision." Moreover, he pointed out that he never got a chance to talk to Gruden before getting cut. So, Marquette King had enough reasons to diss the guy who let him go. Before Sunday's game when King was asked about Gruden, he just replied: "who’s that?"

And clearly Marquette King is far from being done with the trolling game, this is only, as he said, the part one out of many. The Broncos will face the Raiders again this year on Christmas Eve.

Marquette King is one of the most productive punters in the league. Last season, he finished third in the NFL in net punting average (42.7 yards). Besides, his athleticism allows him to tackle and even run if the situation requires it. Despite this, his personality attracts a lot of fans and media attention, and a lot of teammates might find it annoying. According to Vic Tafur from The Athletic, Raiders’ players were not even surprised by King’s departure.

“People in the building and King’s teammates were not too surprised at his being released,” Tafur reported. “The flamboyant social media star was perceived as hard to handle and teammates looked at him differently after a 2017 Pro Bowl tweet that showed him having his chain playfully tugged by then-Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib.”
