Matt Hardy may have made his in-ring return this week, but he will not be reintroducing his Woken gimmick. At least not for now.
Raw and SmackDown Live were both incredibly packed shows this week. If they had happened a couple of months ago, after the McMahons promised to shake things up, that would have made an awful lot of sense. Never mind as we have those changes now and as we said, it made for some pretty entertaining television.
While Raw got the return of Roman Reigns and the attack of Ric Flair by an invading Batista, SmackDown Live was treated to the return of Kevin Owens and Matt Hardy. It has been a while since we last saw Hardy. In fact, the last time The Woken One spoke on television, we were led to believe that his in-ring days might well be behind him.
That is clearly not the case. Hardy teamed up with his brother Jeff on Tuesday and proceeded to defeat The Bar. While Hardy is evidently fit to wrestle, the one thing he did not appear to be this week is Woken. It almost seemed like a rehash of his and Jeff's triumphant return at WrestleMania 33. A throwback to who he was before becoming Broken.
Those of you hoping Hardy is still Broken or Woken, we have some bad news. After his and Jeff's match this week, WWE posted a short interview segment with the two of them on YouTube. Although not directly quizzed about it, Hardy revealed that he has "learned how to control the Woken wonder" inside of him. However, a lot of the language he used still sounded pretty Woken to us, so maybe the much-loved gimmick is not gone for good.
Now that Hardy is back, we want to know where on Earth Bray Wyatt has gotten to. It seemed that the only reason The Eater Of Worlds disappeared from TV was due to him being paired with The Woken One. That was almost six months ago and Wyatt is nowhere to be seen. He has been promising a return on Twitter so who knows, maybe WWE has big plans for him in the not so distant future.
