Matt Hardy's unannounced appearance was the second shocking moment of Tuesday's SmackDown Live as he returned to team up with brother Jeff Hardy to face The Bar.

In a night of early surprises, Matt Hardy made for the second shocker of the evening when he made his way to the ring with his brother Jeff during the second segment of the show. It was his first tag match with Jeff in over a year and first appearance on WWE programming in months. In fact, the last time anyone heard from Matt as far as his WWE career was concerned, there were worries he would never wrestle again.

Just a few days ago, Matt Hardy teased that he might be exiting WWE by tweeting a photo of himself holding two non-WWE titles. When fans assumed that meant he might be heading to AEW, he didn't slow those rumors when he responded with comments like he’d be fine outside WWE and said his contract was coming due in March.

It's uncertain whether WWE wasn't paying much attention to Hardy and that social media post was a way to grab the attention of his employer or WWE simply saw the post and realized letting him leave for another company was not a wise move, he's now seemingly back with WWE and it has to be assumed he's got a new contract.

Hardy took to social media after the match and posted, "Indestructible. Unkillable. Unstoppable." Going back over his posts prior to SmackDown, attentive followers might have figured something was up as he hinted to watch Jeff and SmackDown Live before it aired.

What This Means

Hardy has not made comment on whether or not he's signed a new contract, it seems that this is likely the case. It's hard to imagine WWE would put a superstar who might be leaving in a couple weeks in a prime spot on one of their flagship shows.
