Several Superstars in the WWE have been accused of varying degrees of sexual assault, abuse or harassment as part of the sweeping #SpeakingOut movement on social media that has seen an overwhelming number of brave women come forward with their stories of abuse.

Over seventy people in the wrestling industry were implicated, with more being added to the list as time goes on but among that number were the likes of Ligero, Travis Banks, Sid Scala, Jack Gallagher, Matt Riddle, Jordan Devlin and Joe Coffey.

Most of these Superstars perform on NXT UK with the majority of the accusations being aimed towards wrestlers that were active on the UK independent circuit although the systemic issue of alleged predatory behaviour is clearly not limited to just the UK.

WWE released the following statement after the accusations were made against their employees and after it has been revealed that UK police are now taking a serious look at the allegations.

"Individuals are responsible for their own personal actions. WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault.

Upon arrest for such misconduct, a WWE talent will be immediately suspended. Upon conviction for such misconduct, a WWE talent will be immediately terminated.

WWE’s ability to fine, suspend or terminate a WWE talent will not be, however, limited or compromised in any manner in the event incontrovertible evidence of such illegal misconduct is presented to WWE."

Just after the WWE statement was issued to the press several of the accused Superstars, including Ligero, Jordan Devlin and Matt Riddle took to Twitter to defend themselves with statements of their own categorically denying any criminal wrongdoing and revealing they were consulting their legal teams.

Ligero did issue a further series of tweets relating to other accusations that had been raised against him from other women and admit that his behaviour in those instances was wrong and then apologising.

Matt Riddle provided a statement through his solicitor detailing that the allegations weren't true and that his accuser is known to the law firm. It had been reported that Riddle went straight to WWE to explain this when the allegations were made.

Finally Jordan Devlin, in a similar statement to Ligero's, categorically denied the allegations made against him and indicated that was the victim of a 'malicious personal agenda'.

The other WWE Superstars involved from the list above have yet to make a statement but it's worth noting that they have all been quiet on social media for the last two days that this has been going on.
