Continuing to surprise the NBA world, all while bringing in pieces LeBron James knows well, multiple sources are reporting that Michael Beasley and the Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to terms on a one-year, $3.5 million deal.

Beasley played one season with James while both were part of the Miami Heat in 2013-14. It is being speculated James was instrumental in the Lakers going this direction, citing James' being a fan of Beasley's game and wanting to add pieces he was comfortable with.

Beasley, 29, played the 2017-18 season with the New York Knicks and will likely be a reserve player for the Lakers. In 74 games last season, he averaged 13.2 points and 5.6 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc. It was somewhat of a bounce-back campaign, proving that while he's not a superstar, Beasley could be a consistent option and should provide options and multiple looks for LA.

The deal will bring the Lakers to 15 contracts and proves the franchise is stacking (or emptying) the deck for next summer. After landing LeBron, the Lakers have now signed Beasley, Rajon Rondo, JaVale McGee, and Lance Stephenson — all tough-minded veterans, on one-year contracts, meant to mentor the Lakers young core and keep the salary cap open for next summer when names like Kawhi Leonard might be available in free agency.

Specifically, Beasley brings some scoring as a small forward or power forward option. He can create mismatches depending on the opponent and as the No. 2 pick by the Miami Heat in the 2008 Draft, he clearly has skills.

There were rumors Beasley wanted to return to New York but that the change in coaching was the reason the Knicks moved on. It was also speculated Beasley was trying to decide between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Lakers but that the $3.5 million was more than the Thunder were willing to offer.

Beasley will be playing for his seventh team. He's also had stints with Miami, Minnesota, Phoenix, Houston, and Milwaukee.
