Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan was spotted playfully smacking Malik Monk upside the head on Wednesday night after the player earned himself a technical for stepping onto the court during his side's win over the Detroit Pistons.

Monk was caught up in the excitement after watching teammate Jeremy Lamb hit a 22-foot game-winner against Detroit and ran from the bench along with teammate Bismack Biyombo to celebrate.

Unbeknownst to the players, there was still .3 seconds left on the clock and Monk was hit with a tech that handed the Pistons a lifeline at the free throw line. Fortunately, Lamb's shot was allowed to stand and the Hornets won 108-107 after stealing the Pistons' inbound pass.

Jordan was not best pleased with the player's silly decision and playfully smacked him twice before the pair broke into laughter. And, in case anyone thought there was malicious intent, the GOAT has stated that it was all friendly.

"It was like a big brother and little brother tap," he told the Associated Press through his spokeswoman on Thursday (h/t ESPN). "No negative intent. Only love!"

"Big, big, big brother," Monk said laughing. "But it was nothing. He was just playing.

"It's Mike, and whatever he does is going to make [news] because nowadays it's all social media and everybody has their phone out there and I wasn't surprised."

The player also claimed that his celebration was hardly different from others around the league, although he was almost on the opposing foul line when Lamb hit the shot.

"If they call that they have to call every single one of them," he declared "Everybody celebrates and has a foot on the court. We won. I'm glad we got the W."

"I did not realize we still had time on the clock," Biyombo said. "I was watching the replay and you could see I was all the way out there [and] Malik was on the court. ... When Jeremy Lamb pointed at the clock, we were like, 'Shoot, we still have a lot of game to play.'"

Hornets head coach James Borrego said he had not seen the video of Jordan smacking Monk. "It went viral, huh?" he said with a grin.

What This Means

Jordan isn't expected to be penalized by the NBA for his brotherly taps, but he would do well to drill players on paying closer attention to the clock as Monk's actions could have cost his team a win.

He'd have probably thrown a punch in that case, something he was known to do back in the day. Just ask Steve Kerr.
