Luka Doncic and Michael Porter Jr. might be the two most interesting rookies to watch this upcoming NBA season, especially if their potentially early indirect jabs on social media are any indication.

In recent days, the two soon to be NBA'ers have taken a few shots at each other through Instagram. @mpjcenter, an Instagram page entirely devoted to Michael Porter Jr. stuff, noticed that Porter liked a comment under the ESPN’s panelist projections for NBA Rookie of the Year that read: “This is terrible Luka is the most overrated person I’ve seen in my life.” While Porter Jr. merely liked on the post on Instagram and didn't comment, it was enough to ruffle feathers.

Dino Radoncic, a former teammate of Doncic defended to newest Dallas Mavericks rookie by saying," MVP of Euroleague can't be overrated. An injured player who has not played 5 college games can be overrated." It was a response Donic himself then liked.

While it appears the original post is nothing more than someone who is not a fan of Doncic, trying to express a biased opinion, that the two players are now involved is interesting.

The background of this potential beef comes from the fact that now Denver Nuggets rookie Porter Jr. fell almost completely out of the lottery round of the NBA Draft this year. At one time considered the potential No. 1 Draft pick, injuries kept him from playing most of his college career. His draft stock plummeted and taking him was a risk by the Nuggets considering he still might not be 100 percent healthy.

Meanwhile, Donic was grabbed by the Atlanta Hawks at No. 3, moved to Dallas for Trae Young and a draft pick and is considered the odds-on favorite to win the Rookie of the Year Award this season. Doncic projects to be the most NBA-ready player in the draft and should enter the NBA and make an impact.

While this might be a friendly back-and-forth between two ROTY candidates, it does pose the question as to how often drafted players pay attention to the projections of other drafted players and if it bothers them. Doncic has a ton of accolades while Porter Jr. has been all-but written off by insiders.

During his final season abroad, Doncic averaged 14.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game across 61 combined Liga ACB and EuroLeague appearances. Porter Jr. barely played and fell to 14th overall in June's draft because of back issues.

At this point, it is unclear if Porter will even be ready for the start of the NBA season.
