There's good and bad that comes with the WWE's ability to manufacture reactions in the WWE ThunderDome. For some talent -- especially undercard and midcard performers looking to use the fans to work their way up the roster -- it's certainly bad.

WWE can play with the audio, the crowd reactions and all sorts of things thanks to the fact they are operating on a closed set in the ThunderDome. There are advantages to such production, including pre-recording matches/segments or increasing the reaction for stars, giving the show a more "lively" feel. It does have its drawbacks.

Essentially, if you're not on the company's radar, you can't use the energy of the crowd to help get you over.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently noted that some “underneath talent” are growing frustrated with WWE for being so stringent with the way the fans at home hear the reactions to their entrances and segments. Some are starting to feel like, when they might have gotten big pops with a full crowd and made it hard for WWE to ignore them, any cheers are being squashed in production, thus also stopping any potential to move forward dead in its tracks.

They write:

The ability to completely control reactions has led to frustration in some of the underneath talent because they realize the company creates the sound based on who they want to push and who they don’t, and then you have to face the fact that you’re not on the list of people they want to push, and whatever you do, you can’t get the reaction from the fans to change that.

Why Wouldn't WWE Want To Know?

It's also curious as to why WWE wouldn't want to organic reactions to shine through and just accentuate them. If someone is getting a pop, why not relay that? It's one thing to soften the boos and then take note of them. It's another to hold back the push of a star the WWE Universe is clearly behind.

It's an odd choice, to say the least. There should be a person behind the scenes simply to monitor unexpected reactions and go, 'Are you hearing this? They love this person! Turn it up!'
