The last time we saw The Miz, his flesh was being consumed by a horde of zombies that were previously acting as lumberjacks. At least that's what WWE wanted us to believe. The ending to what was effectively a match-long advert for Netflix's Army of the Dead has been torn apart since WrestleMania Backlash and yes, pun very much intended.

While The Miz was not actually consumed by the undead on live television, reports suggest he did actually suffer a knee injury during the match. A pretty serious injury to his ACL which could keep him on the sidelines for an extended period of time. True wrestling fans never want to see performers suffer injuries whether they like them or not. However, if The Miz does have to stay off TV for a while to recover, there are a handful of reasons why his injury may well come with a significant silver lining.

Let Johnny Drip Drip Shine

John Morrison has been back in WWE for over a year. Upon his return, Johnny Drip Drip almost immediately returned to the side of The Miz, a man he has held tag team gold with in the past. After they split the first time around, The Miz became a WWE Champion while Morrison eventually left WWE to pursue other ventures. In the eyes of WWE, that means Morrison is less than The Miz, hence him effectively being The A-Lister's comedic sidekick for the past 12 months.

Morrison has proved during that time that now more than never, he deserves more. His character work has been vastly improved via his work in the movie industry during his time away, while his innovative and unique style of wrestling is better than ever. He might not have done it under WWE's watchful eye, but Morrison has improved massively over the course of the past half a decade. He deserves a singles run of his own, and The Miz being forcibly removed from his side via an injury might be the only way we see that happen.

Something New For Damian Priest

To put it mildly, WWE has a mixed return when it comes to its use of NXT alumni on the main roster. The success of stars like Seth Rollins and Charlotte Flair cannot be denied. The misuse of stars like Ricochet and Shinsuke Nakamura, on the other hand, isn't so great. Fans will be hoping Damian Priest falls into that first category.

Priest debuted on the main roster during this year's men's Royal Rumble match. The former North American Champion eliminated Miz and Morrison during the match and has been embroiled in a rivalry with the two of them ever since. The added element of Bad Bunny for their match at WrestleMania meant an extended angle involving the three of them made sense. The rapper has now returned to his day job, but Priest's issues with The Miz continue to drag on.

The Miz's possible absence could force WWE's hand when it comes to Priest's next steps. If there were plans to have Priest and Miz wrestle again, which is likely, those plans will now need to be changed. Priest was among one of the Superstars who considered answering Bobby Lashley's open challenge on Raw this week, which is a good sign. Hopefully, WWE finds something for him now The Miz is out of the picture and doesn't just let Priest fade into the background.

Zombie Bites Have A Long Recovery Time

Again, we just want to hammer home that wrestlers suffering injuries is never a good thing. However, the person who stands to benefit most from The Miz spending a period on the sidelines is The A-Lister himself. Not to mention WWE and the fans. Ridiculous or not, WWE wants fans to think The Miz was killed by zombies over the weekend. That happened. There's no taking that back. Next is the tricky task of figuring out how to get The Miz back on TV.

What's even more ridiculous is the fact this isn't the first time WWE has had to try and work out how to bring back a dead character. Vince McMahon survived an explosion, Bray Wyatt has been burned alive, and AJ Styles was buried alive at WrestleMania last year. History dictates the best way to get it done is to let a long period of time pass so fans forget why exactly said character disappeared from TV in the first place. If The Miz has torn his ACL, that gives WWE a built-in reason to leave him off TV for an extended period of time.

If The Miz does need to recover for nine months or more, by the time he returns the only mention of zombie-gate will be the odd fan saying, "hey, didn't that guy get eaten?" The moment won't have been forgotten, but it will be a distant memory rather than a fresh one, and The Miz can continue on with something new. Hopefully, he will return to a WWE in which Priest and Morrison have thrived and are holding singles titles.
