Brooklyn Nets fans thought they'd remind Markelle Fultz  that Jayson Tatum has been the best NBA player from the 2017 draft class so far during Sunday's contest against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Fultz - the No. 1 pick from 2017 - lined up to shoot a pair of free throws in the first quarter at the Barclays Center. During this time, Nets fans began taunting Fultz with "Jayson Tatum" chants.

Fultz made one of two free throws, so the chants only semi worked. Brooklyn won the game 122-97, and Fultz finished with nine points and four rebounds. He made three of four free throw attempts.

Nets fans, in a way, taunted their own team with the chant. Remember, they gave up a trio of first-round picks to get past-their-prime stars Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry and D.J. White in a blockbuster 2013 trade.

The Nets figuratively won the 2017 draft lottery, and Boston wound up with the No. 1 pick. They wound up trading that selection to Philly, who drafted Fultz. Moving down to third, Boston drafted Tatum, who's already morphed into a star.

So while Nets fans were apparently mocking Fultz for not living up to expectations the way Tatum has, Brooklyn was also served a reminder about the terrible trade they made five years ago.

Fultz was injured for most of his rookie season, playing in only 14 games. To date, he's averaged 9.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in 2018-19 As for Tatum, he's up to 15.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

Tatum was instrumental in guiding Boston to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, where they fell just one game short of dethroning the Cleveland Cavaliers. Meanwhile, Fultz's trainer admitted that he experienced the yips in his rookie year. Fultz worked extensively on his shooting in the offseason, but the results haven't showed yet.
