Will Ospreay is the greatest high-flier in professional wrestling today, and New Japan Pro Wrestling President Naoki Sugabayashi heaped praise onto the young star from Rainham, Essex.

Ospreay is currently reigning as the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion during their annual Best of the Super Juniors Tournament, and during a recent interview, Sugabayashi said (note: we edited his quote slightly for grammatical purposes): “Ospreay is professional and a hard worker, I also love his spirit in matches. I know he is working with a minor injury in shoulder and neck, but he always put in a top performance.” Will injured that area during a match earlier in the year that garnered five-stars from Dave Meltzer with fellow Brit Marty Scurll, but it hasn’t slowed him down, as he is still one of the best and hardest working professional wrestlers alive today.

New Japan has traditionally been built on the back of Japanese stars, but over the past few years especially, we’ve seen Westerners (or gaijin, as they're called in NJPW) like Ospreay, The Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega break out as top stars, and Sugabayashi has certainly noticed, with Will in particular. He also said: “Although he is known as a wrestler who does a lot of aerial moves, he also adopted NJPW style lately and the fans and I certainly loved it. Gaijin such as Will Ospreay and Hangman Page are exactly what I need in this business. Since they joined NJPW, they learned and tried to be better and better, because no matter how great and popular you are overseas, we always treat you as equal.”

This is a great endorsement for one of the industries fastest growing stars, and as he has made it known that New Japan is his home for now and the future, it’s clear that they are set on him being a big star for quite some time. So what do you guys think? Do you agree with this endorsement of the Aerial Assasin? Who would you like to see him wrestle in New Japan in the near future?
