SmackDown Live now has new Tag Team Champions. The titles did not go to one of the brand's four already established teams.

WWE's booking feels a little haphazard and messy right now, to put it kindly. Some of that is WWE's fault and some of it is not. Jeff Hardy getting injured is one of the things that is not. Hardy needing time off to have knee surgery meant that he and his brother Matt were forced to relinquish the SmackDown Tag Team Titles.

It was plain to see from the lack of teams currently on the blue brand that WWE was not expecting to lose one set of its champions. One week on from the titles becoming vacant, Shane McMahon promised that he would crown new champions this past Tuesday. He fulfilled that promise, but the segment didn't go exactly the way he had planned.

McMahon ushered Daniel Bryan and Rowan to the ring and was set to simply award them the titles. However, The Usos weren't going to sit back and let that happen. Even though they are now Raw Superstars, Jimmy and Jey utilized Vince McMahon's new wildcard rule to appear on Team Blue. They then convinced Shane O Mac to make Bryan and Rowan compete against them for the titles.

That match then got underway. As entertaining as it was considering the talent in the ring, the result was only ever going to go one way. We know WWE appears to be embracing chaos right now in terms of Superstars crossing between brands, but having a team that has just been moved to Raw as SmackDown champions would be a risky move. Thankfully, that didn't happen.

Although it didn't go exactly as planned, the team that Shane wanted to be the new champions are now indeed the new champions. Pretty good for Bryan considering it was his first match on SmackDown Live since competing at WrestleMania. It also makes the blue brand's tag division look far stronger than it did just 24 hours ago. Heavy Machinery already has their eyes on the gold, and we look forward to seeing what's next for the new champs.
