With NXT Takeover: New York, the roster involved just sent a stiff shot to the crew for WrestleMania. It was a show-of-the-year quality show.

From the opening match which featured a contest between The War Raiders vs. Ricochet and Aleister Black, to the final bout that was one of the best main events in NXT history between Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano, NXT just proved, as they often do, WWE has its hands full trying to live up to the opening act.

In an emotional showing of respect, after Ricochet and Black ultimately lost to The War Raiders, the NXT crowd stood and applauded the duo that was now part of WWE's main roster. Ricochet cried, proving just how much NXT means to the talent that make up the roster but ultimately have to leave. That was followed by a classic showdown between Velveteen Dream and Matt Riddle. Riddle ended up taking the pin, but at the same time, proved he's going to be a force in the future of the brand.

Walter vs. Pete Dunne was a fantastic but unique bout that wound up crowning a new NXT UK Champion and in the Fatal 4-Way match between the women of NXT, Baszler showed why she is still one of the best in the company.

But, it was the main event match that really proved to be the reason fans are so in love with NXT. A match that started a bit slower, by the time the bout had come to a close, fans couldn't believe what they were witnessing. Close pinfalls, devastating moves, interference and an underdog getting the final emotional win, made it a match that will probably win multiple awards for Match-of-the-Year.

What This Means

WrestleMania is going to have to be absolutely incredible to live up to the bar set by NXT on Friday. There were likely multiple main roster stars saying to themselves, 'Oh, man.'
