WWE revealed during NXT TakeOver XXV that NXT UK's second TakeOver will take place in Cardiff on August 31.
It's amazing to think that NXT's first ever TakeOver took place just five years ago. It's hard to imagine WWE without NXT at this point. On Saturday night, the black and yellow brand staged its 25th TakeOver. As usual, the action was unmissable. The ladder match for the vacant Tag Team Titles was nothing short of incredible.
NXT has become such a massive brand that it has technically split into two. On top of regular NXT, there is now NXT UK. The British branch of WWE's third brand is gathering a lot of momentum. In fact, earlier this year, NXT UK staged its very own TakeOver for the first time ever. Later this year, it will host NXT UK TakeOver II.
The first NXT UK TakeOver took place in Blackpool. Fitting, since that was sort of where the brand first launched. Before NXT UK had a weekly show, the tournament to crown the first ever WWE United Kingdom Champion took place in Blackpool. On Saturday night, it was revealed that NXT UK TakeOver II will emanate live from Cardiff. The Welsh capital that is yet to have been paid a visit by NXT UK.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about the announcement is when the event will take place. August 31, 2019. A seemingly innocent date on the surface, but one with a lot more meaning once you check your wrestling diaries. August 31 is the night AEW's All Out will take place. The new promotion's historic first show will be where it crowns its first ever World Champion.
Despite the clash, it probably isn't a signal of intent by WWE. Since NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff will be taking place at UK time, it will be done and dusted by the time All Out takes place. TakeOver is scheduled to start at 8 pm GMT, or 3 pm EST. If All Out begins at the same time as Double Or Nothing did, wrestling fans will comfortably be able to watch both. NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff will air live on the WWE Network.
