Odell Beckham Jr. and the New York Giants began contract talks earlier this week, according to ESPN's Jordan Ranaan.

The 25-year-old Beckham is heading into the final year of his contract, and he's certainly in line to become the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL. After Antonio Brown and Julio Jones, Beckham is by far the best and most productive wide receiver in the NFL.

As Ranaan noted, Giants owner John Mara recently said the two sides would soon discuss a new contract. With New York drafting star running back Saquon Barkley second overall, the Giants could surely have one of the NFL best offenses for years to come. Hence, extending Beckham becomes a much higher priority, if it wasn't before.

Drafted 12th overall in 2014, Beckham reached 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons. However, a gruesome ankle injury forced him to miss 12 games in 2017, and the Giants offense imploded and limped to a woeful 3-13 record.

Eli Manning and co. simply couldn't get by without their top receiver, and Beckham's value to the team was put on display even more during his absence. A multi-year deal worth over $80 million is surely in the cards for Beckham, who has already proclaimed that he wants to be the highest-paid receiver.

Beckham displays game-changing speed, slick hands and incredible athleticism, all valuable tools that make him one of the best pass-catchers the NFL has ever seen. If he stays healthy, the Giants will surely make a run for the postseason.

NFL contracts continue to get bigger and bigger, especially for wide receivers and quarterbacks. Beckham's contract is expiring at the right time, as he'll cash in big and could very well set a record for the largest wide receiver deal ever.

At this point, it only sounds like a matter of time until the Giants make him a very rich ma.
