Things have been moving pretty quickly for Patrick McCaw.

The shooting guard joined the Cleveland Cavaliers on a non-guaranteed, two-year deal on December 30 after refusing to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors. But he found himself waived by last season's Eastern Conference champions this past Monday.

Fast-forward to Wednesday, the player is set to become the newest member of the Toronto Raptors.

According to ESPN.com's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Raptors are signing McCaw for the remainder of the season following his clearing of waivers on Wednesday afternoon.

"The Toronto Raptors are signing free-agent guard Patrick McCaw for the rest of the season, league sources told ESPN.

"McCaw cleared waivers on Wednesday afternoon, sources said. McCaw, 23, has been the subject of some intrigue in recent weeks -- a Golden State restricted free agent who signed a non-guaranteed offer sheet with Cleveland, only to be waived after three games with the Cavaliers. Golden State declined to match the sheet."

A previous report from the New York Times claimed that the NBA will investigate the Cavs' signing and subsequent waiving of the player at the request of the Warriors.

But Wojnarowski reports that the NBA had closely examined the offer sheet closely before approving. And, while league sources said that there was no reason for it to be disallowed, the reigning champions seem to have suspected foul play and want the deal reviewed.

Woj adds that most league executives don't expect the Cavaliers to be handed any punishment as they did have a three-game window to assess the player before league contracts became guaranteed for the season on Monday.

The Cavaliers would have likely faced some backlash had they attempted to sign the player for less than the $3 million he would have been owed this season but they apparently had no such interest.

What This Means

McCaw will finally settle somewhere, at least until the end of the campaign, and will join the Raptors bench. His chances of winning a third-straight title are back to being great after exiting Cleveland, who still have many confused over their decision to sign the player then waive him almost right away.

While we await the outcome of the NBA's investigation, McCaw will be moving right along. But it will be quite interesting to see what the determination is whenever it is released.
