Paul Heyman was named Executive Director of Raw last week, and he brought plenty of changes to the product for Monday's episode.

There were fireworks after Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley crashed right through the LED screen. There was some swearing (hello, Corey Graves) and a surprise heel turn by A.J. Styles. In just one week, we saw major changes and improvements to Monday Night Raw - and Heyman most certainly has more big changes up his sleeve.

One of them, according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ringside News), could be the complete removal of authority figures. That could mean less television time for Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon, and a brand with no general manager for the foreseeable future.

Meltzer said that for the time being, Raw won't have a "heel authority figure and no authority figure at all." He also noted the minor "Thank You Paul" chants throughout the show, even though he didn't make a single appearance on television.

Stephanie hasn't appeared on television much in 2019, and there hasn't been a full-time general manager since Kurt Angle went on "vacation" last summer. Baron Corbin was the constable of Raw for a while, but he has been used solely as a full-time wrestler. Add it all up, and it makes sense for WWE to keep on going without a heel authority figure for the long run.

It remains to be seen what other changes Heyman will make - and what SmackDown Live Executive Director Eric Bischoff will bring to the table. But the product was growing stale and boring, and whatever Heyman and Bischoff do, you can bet that it'll provide WWE fans with a breath of fresh air.

What This Means

Raw heel authority figures haven't been used much over the past year, and even when on television, they were taking up too much television time. It's a smart move for Heyman to scrap authority roles entirely and simply rely on his superstars to provide all of the entertainment.
