It looks as though Paul Heyman has handpicked the next Raw Superstar he wants to try and get over with the WWE Universe. And, his choice is glorious.

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Heyman has chosen Robert Roode as his next star that he wants the fans to reinvest in. Once the face of the NXT brand and a champion for the black and gold for almost a full year, Roode came to the main roster with a ton of hype. Unfortunately, that hype faded quickly when the writers tried to make him a babyface instead of extremely successful heel character he'd been portraying in NXT.

Since his debut, he's floundered around both Raw and SmackDown brands, most recently being paired up with Dolph Ziggler and outlasting seven other teams in a Tag Team Turmoil match for the right to face Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins for the Raw Tag Team Championships at Clash of Champions.

Speculation is that Heyman is a proponent of Roode. He believes there's a lot more to this character than WWE has given him and pairing him with Ziggler was Heyman's way of getting more attention drawn to Roode. Over the long-term, it will Roode who moves on to be the bigger star of the two in Heyman's eyes.

What This Means

This might not be great news for Ziggler if the plan is to work with Roode more than the Showoff but this is great news for Roode. That Heyman sees something in him is a big opportunity it appeared Roode wasn't getting otherwise.

There is some expectation that Roode and Ziggler might actually win the tag titles, not only to help their progression but to tease friction between Strowman and Rollins heading towards their Universal Title match at Clash of Champions.
