Cedric Alexander has been one of the main faces of the WWE cruiserweight division, but it sounds like he'll be part of something bigger under Paul Heyman.
Heyman was hired as the new Executive Director of Monday Night Raw back in June, and he's already made plenty of noticeable changes to the product. And according to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ringside News), the legendary wrestling executive "is very high on Cedric, it's very clear."
A sign of a potential push for Alexander took place back on the July 8 episode of Raw. Wearing a mask and a janitor outfit, Alexander secretively teamed up with Roman Reigns in a losing effort in a match against Drew McIntyre and Shane McMahon.
A week later, Alexander defeated McIntyre in a big upset, but the latter won a subsequent rematch on this past week's episode of Raw. McIntyre has been rumored to be a part of a major push as well for quite some time, so it bodes well for Alexander that he's in a feud with another talent who's about to embark on bigger and better things.
It was previously reported by Tom Colohue that Heyman's "intended main event scene" includes Reigns, Seth Rollins, Cesaro, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, Rey Mysterio and Braun Strowman. Now, it sounds like Alexander has been added to the list of superstars that Heyman wants to largely build the Raw product around.
Alexander will go up against Zayn in the opening round of the King of the Ring bracket. The victor will go up against the winner of The Miz vs. and Baron Corbin. Perhaps the tournament will mark the beginning of a special push for Alexander.
What This Means
Alexander is an elite in-ring talent, but WWE unfortunately hasn't shown much interest in pushing the cruiserweights. It'd be a smart move for Heyman and the creative team to give Alexander a push, because few superstars display his phenomenal wrestling skill set.
