Many WWE fans are holding out hope for a dream match between Roman Reigns and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Back in 2019, The Rock announced his retirement from professional wrestling. However, the wrestler-turned-actor has continuously expressed an interest in doing a match with his cousin.

Recently, The Rock admitted that a match with Reigns at WrestleMania 39 "makes sense." That event is scheduled to take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Apr. 2, 2023.

As it turns out, the WWE icon has discussed a match with the Universal Champion. This is according to Reigns' Special Counsel, Paul Heyman.

During an interview with GiveMeSport, Heyman revealed that The Rock is among several marquee names to have reached out to Reigns regarding a possible match.

"If I could show you one day's worth of text messages, emails and calls that come into my phone from some of the biggest superstars in sports and entertainment on this planet, it would blow your mind," Heyman said. "Crossover celebrities in their prime would love to step into a WrestleMania ring with Roman Reigns. It's not just Dwayne Johnson. The Rock is just one of many.

"Top stars in many sports are yearning for the publicity, the notoriety, fame, legacy and money of main eventing WrestleMania with Roman Reigns."

Heyman wouldn't mention the other "superstars" who've inquired about a showdown with Reigns. But it's hard to think of a much bigger name than The Rock, who was one of the WWE's top two stars (along with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin) in the Attitude Era.

The Rock's last match took place at WrestleMania 32, where he defeated Erick Rowan in just six seconds. Before that, his most recent bout was a loss to John Cena at WrestleMania 29.

Roman Reigns and The Rock

Not only is The Rock interested in a match, but he's also willing to put Reigns over. The latter hasn't lost a singles match since turning heel and aligning with Heyman last August.

When Could This Match Happen?

Back in December, Paul Davis of WrestlingNews.co reported that Vince McMahon preferred to wait until WrestleMania 38 to run the match between Reigns and The Rock.  That was before WWE switched the location for WrestleMania 37 from Inglewood to Tampa Bay, Florida.

Next year's show will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.. Whether or not Vince is willing to wait another year to have it remains to be seen. But as The Rock pointed out, WrestleMania 39 definitely makes a lot of sense. This would give WWE a valuable two-year window to prepare for the blockbuster dream match.
