October 3, 2018, marked the 500th day of Pete Dunne's reign as WWE United Kingdom Champion. He is the longest reigning champion in the company right now.

A great many old-school professional wrestling fans often pine for the days of old in the industry when competitors could hold on to titles for longer periods. The legendary Bruno Sammartino is the best example of that. The WWE Hall Of Famer held the WWE Championship just twice in his career, but both reigns combined came to an incredible total of 4040 days, more than eleven years.

While that record will almost definitely stand for the rest of time, have you noticed that title reigns in present day WWE are starting to get a little longer? Current WWE Champion AJ Styles has held the title for 330 days at the time of typing this. Former Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar held that title for more than 500 days, eventually losing it to Roman Reigns at this year's SummerSlam.

The Big Dog is still a long way off breaking that record, however, a current champion in WWE is about to surpass it. Current WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne celebrated 500 days with his title this past Wednesday, an impressive milestone. The Beast Incarnate notched up 504 days as Universal Champion. That means as long as Dunne doesn't lose the title over the weekend, he will have been UK Champion longer than Lesnar was Universal Champion.

The Bruiserweight is only the second Superstar to have held the title since it was introduced back in January of 2017. Dunne defeated his good friend Tyler Bate for the title at NXT TakeOver: Chicago back in June of 2017 and has been champion ever since. Even a second UK tournament to decide a new challenger couldn't dethrone Dunne. Eventual winner Zack Gibson was unsuccessful in his attempts to defeat the champ.

As for when Dunne will eventually drop the UK Title to its third holder and who that will be, well that is currently anyone's guess. NXT's new UK division is currently in the process of touring Great Britain and filming the action for upcoming episodes on the WWE Network. Perhaps someone will be lucky enough to earn a shot and win on one of those shows. It would certainly be a big moment for the new show as it will bring the curtain down on what is already a very long reign.
