Sunday, May 20, 2018, marks the one year anniversary of Pete Dunne winning the United Kingdom Championship, and he hasn't lost it since.

WWE is currently attempting to make itself even more of a global brand than it ever has been before. Vince McMahon and co are doing that via massive shows in countries such as Saudi Arabia and Australia, and also by recruiting talents for their Performance Center from China, India and beyond. However, a lot of their focus remains in the promotion's second biggest market, the United Kingdom.

The real push to up the ante in the UK began in January 2017. WWE held a tournament at The Empress Ballroom in Blackpool featuring some of Britain and Ireland's top talents, and the winner of it was crowned the first ever WWE UK Champion. Tyler Bate won the title, becoming champion at the age of just nineteen years old. However, his reign only lasted four months.

Bate's time with the title came to an end at last year's NXT Takeover: Chicago. He and Pete Dunne put on a match that was quite rightly labeled as the best match in NXT for all of 2017. The Bruiserweight defeated his fellow countryman and became the second ever WWE UK Champion, and he has never looked back since. One year on he is still his nation's champion.

Dunne posted a GIF of himself raising the title one year ago on Twitter to remind the WWE Universe that he has been champion for an entire year. The caption to go along with it simply reads "365 days". That reign may come to an end pretty soon though. The second UK Title tournament will take place in London next month, and the winner of that will earn themselves a shot at Dunne's crown.

Who exactly will win next month's tournament is anyone's guess, and even then they may not succeed when they go up against Dunne. There are some strong names plus some new ones who will compete for that number one contender's spot, however, there is no one in WWE's UK division that the company is higher on than Dunne right now. He has a bright future with the company, hence his year-long reign with the UK Title.
