In the wake of news that Adam Cole's WWE deal might be expiring soon and after numerous releases by Vince McMahon and co. another current NXT star and possible future WWE main eventer could be headed out the door.

As per a report by Fightful Select, apparently, Pete Dunne's WWE deal is set to expire imminently. The report is behind a paywall, so we don't have full details to share on if an exact date was provided or where Dunne might sit on an extension with WWE, but if he's the next to go, this could be another huge loss for the company.

Dunne hasn't had a real run on the main roster yet, but his future in the wrestling business is undoubtedly bright. Just 27 years old, he has star power written all over him. His unique style and propensity to focus on limbs and extremities as he battles with his opponents, there are few wrestlers in the world quite like him. He has the potential, even though he's smaller in stature, to be a big-time player in any wrestling promotion.

What's interesting about the timing -- beyond just the fact many names have left WWE or are rumored to be leaving -- is that Dunne just gave one of the better on-mic promos of his run in NXT. Not necessarily known as a strong talker, he took a big step this past week during NXT programming.

WWE Needs To Keep Some Stars

With each release fans are asking where the line is. At what point does WWE say, this is not a star we can afford to lose? Perhaps Pete Dunne is not that guy, but it's fair to ask, if not Dunne, who?

This is a talent that has all the tools. It would be a shame if he didn't extend and walked out the door as well, especially when you consider that WWE could use a few talented roster members to take a big step into the main event scene.
