A recent report suggests Matt Hardy might be pushing for a character change in WWE. If approved, he'll be going by the moniker of Big Money Matt.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, before rejoining WWE and his brother Jeff as a tag team, Hardy had pushed for the idea of doing a new gimmick in WWE. The character change would be something very similar to a video Matt released on YouTube earlier this month. The gimmick would include Hardy acting out multiple characters at various times. These would include Woken Matt, Matt Hardy V1, and a new character to WWE, Big Money Matt, which is re-introduced in the video above.

When Hardy first tried to gain some momentum behind the idea, he put the YouTube video together and added a content description under the video which read, "Allow me to reintroduce you to The ICONIC Big Money Matt, one of the many elements that make up The MULTIFARIOUS Matt Hardy. This EPIC video was shot and edited by my BRILLIANT and BEAUTIFUL wife, Rebecca Hardy."

Clearly, he took some time to think it through and Hardy has always been well known as a wrestler who can almost entirely re-invent himself.

What This Means

It would be interesting to see if WWE even toys with the idea of giving Matt a new open opportunity to flex his creative muscle. He's back in the tag team scene with his brother and it appears he might be making a run at the SmackDown Live titles. A new single's gimmick doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

Would this be big for WWE and Hardy? Potentially it could be. But, it could also be another thing WWE doesn't do well when it comes to Hardy's creative ideas. When given the opportunity to roll with the Broken character that Hardy had so successfully built, WWE ruined it by putting him in front of a camera and maniacally laughing over and over. Fans can only imagine what they might have in store a character like Big Money Matt.
