The Los Angeles Lakers have been making some big moves since July 1, 2018; and after they brought in the biggest free agent name on the market, they're aiming to recruit a whole new cast for their new King.

The side reached a four-year deal with LeBron James on Sunday, also announcing deals for Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee.

ESPN is now reporting that Rajon Rondo has joined the side on a one-year, $9 million deal, with Julius Randle becoming a free agent after being renounced.

The Lakers are understood to have stolen a march on the New Orleans Pelicans to obtain Rondo's services in their negotiations, outbidding their Western Conference rivals after creating cap space by letting Randle go. The Pels, in turn, signed Randle on a two-year, $18 million contract, per NBA sources.

The 23-year-old big man is reported to have requested that the side renounce him as he would have otherwise been forced to accept a reduced role next season. They were also unwilling to match any offers as that would have meant committing money long term, something they're now trying to avoid due to still being keen on shopping in the 2019 free agent market.

Rondo, meanwhile, averaged 8.3 points and 8.2 assists per game in his one season playing for the Pelicans. He went on to average 10.3 points and 12.2 assists per game during the Playoffs, helping them sweep the Portland Trailblazers in the first round.

The Lakers have totally transformed their team in just two days. And in Rondo, they will have an experienced head, quick hands, as well as a mentor for the maturing Lonzo Ball. The former Celtics point guard will also bring with him some top-notch basketball IQ to complement LeBron's.

This is indeed a new era for a side who appeared to be lost in the wake of Kobe Bryant's retirement. While their new-look squad certainly looks capable of changing the shape of the Western Conference, they're still a ways from usurping the Golden State Warriors, especially now that they've landed DeMarcus Cousins.
