When two WWE Superstars have an unexpected back-and-forth on social media, it doesn't always, if ever, lead to a match on WWE programming. That said, in the case of Randy Orton and NXT star Tomasso Ciampa, Orton is hoping their brief Twitter spat actually goes somewhere.

Orton and Ciampa exchanged words on Twitter when Orton made a back-handed remark about how good NXT Takeover: In Your House was. A well-received pay-per-view with excellent matches, Orton claimed he was leg-slapping for the black and gold brand, poking fun at the fact NXT is known to get a bit carried away with wrestlers enhancing strikes by slapping their own legs for effect. For old school wrestlers like Orton, the practice is a bit hokey.

Ciampa didn't take kindly to the tweet suggesting that any given Orton match could put someone to sleep. Orton and his wife then responded teasing that they'd hurt Ciampa's feelings.

Typically, this sort of thing doesn't go anywhere. In fact, Vince McMahon is not often pleased when wrestlers get heated in the types of interactions that won't lead to a match, since fans almost come to expect something the company isn't planning to deliver.

But, according to Louis Dangoor of WrestleTalk.com, Orton doesn't want to leave the fans hanging. He has expressed interest in working with stars from the NXT brand, namely Ciampa:

"Our sources tell us that Randy Orton has thrown about the idea of working with some of NXT’s roster, with Ciampa being one of the people he would be keen to work with. We’ve also heard that other names such as Adam Cole have been discussed."

Would WWE Actually Consider This?

What we know is that Ciampa moving to the main roster to feud with Orton isn't likely. He's publicly said he has no desire to leave NXT. That means, should Orton want to face Ciampa, he'd need to move over to Wednesdays to start something up.

There have been rumors Orton is pegged to work with Drew McIntyre in the near future, but with Vince McMahon reportedly unhappy about NXT's viewership numbers in recent months, who know. Perhaps it's possible that Orton vs. Ciampa could be a cross-brand storyline.
