Brian Kendrick was once WWE Champion for a very short amount of time. Except he wasn't. Although technically he was. Let us explain.

There have been a number of prestigious titles across various promotions throughout the history of professional wrestling. The NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title, the big gold belt, the winged-eagle title in WWE during the early 1990s. No matter what form it takes, however, wined-eagle or not, the WWE Championship is the most sought-after title in wrestling history.

All of the biggest stars from wrestling history have held the WWE Championship. Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, The Undertaker. There are also some wrestlers who have held it that aren't quite as big as some of those Hall Of Fame names. Jinder Mahal's run in 2017 immediately springs to mind. However, did you know that Brian Kendrick was once WWE Champion? Sort of.

For those of you who have no idea what we are talking about, let us explain. Vince McMahon went through a phase of booking matches called championship scrambles. Multiple Superstars would compete for the title in a match with a time limit. Pin the champion and you win the title, but you only become champion if you have the title when the time runs out.

If you haven't already guessed, Kendrick was a part of one of these matches for the WWE Title. The match took place at Unforgiven 2008 and at one point in the match, Kendrick held the title. However, that only makes him an interim champion. Despite the photographic evidence above, the 205 Live star was never actually WWE Champion. Triple H would be the eventual winner of the match, entering it as WWE Champion and ultimately leaving in the same way.

Even though Kendrick has never been WWE Champion, there is no denying his talent. He may be one of the most underrated Superstars if this era. At one point, he agreed with that premise, hence his time away from the company. Despite never holding the business's ultimate prize, he is revered by fans and his peers. He is also held in high regard by WWE. Why else would they have selected him to help train Ronda Rousey?
