On Friday, WWE confirmed reports that SummerSlam 2021 will take place on Saturday, Aug. 21. A location hasn't been announced yet, but the company is reportedly considering six NFL stadiums for the event.

According to a report from Sports Business Journal (h/t Paul Davis of WrestlingNews.co), those stadiums are Hard Rock Stadium (home of the Miami Dolphins), Nissan Stadium (Tennessee Titans,) SoFi Stadium (Los Angeles Chargers and Rams), Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas Raiders), NRG Stadium (Houston Texans), and MetLife Stadium (New York Giants and Jets). WWE will announce the SummerSlam location on June 5 during the NBC Belmont Stakes' pre-show.

Sofi Stadium and Allegiant Stadium are brand new, having just opened last year for the 2020 NFL campaign. The Rams, Chargers and Raiders didn't have any fans in attendance because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. SoFi Stadium was initially scheduled to host WrestleMania 37, but WWE relocated the event to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida. SoFi Stadium will now host WrestleMania 39 on Apr. 2, 2023.

On Thursday, multiple reports stated that SummerSlam will take place in Las Vegas on Aug. 21. It's worth noting that the city has never hosted SummerSlam, and the state of Nevada last hosted a WWE pay-per-view on Feb. 25, 2018 (Elimination Chamber).

SummerSlam 2020 took place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. It was the first WWE pay-per-view to feature the ThunderDome concept that debuted two days earlier on SmackDown.

WWE will resume touring on July 16, with SmackDown taking place at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Money in the Bank 2021 — set to take place at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth — will be the first pay-per-view to feature a live crowd on WWE's 25-city tour.

First Time SummerSlam Location?

As noted above, Las Vegas has never hosted SummerSlam. Neither have the states of Texas or Tennessee, and last year's event marked the first to take place in Florida. SoFi Stadium, of course, and MetLife Stadium also haven't held SummerSlam.
