Edge suffered a torn triceps injury during last month's Backlash tapings, and the injury will keep him sidelined long-term.

The Rated-R Superstar was in the midst of a feud with former Rated-RKO partner and friend Randy Orton. Edge defeated the Viper in a last man standing match at WrestleMannia 36, but Orton returned the favor with a pinfall victory at Backlash.

With Edge sidelined, Orton has moved on to a feud with Big Show. Several reports claim that the Legend Killer will then feud with WWE Champion Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam.

There's no firm timetable on when Edge will return, but a rubber match with Orton is inevitable. So when the Ultimate Opportunist receives clearance, when could WWE look to bring him back?

On Dropkick DiSKussions, Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue explained that nothing is set in stone regarding Edge's return, and WWE doesn't "want to push in too hard" for his comeback. Colohue suggested that Edge's return could take place at next year's Royal Rumble, which could bring "the same exact pop" he received when he returned at this year's show.

A return at the Royal Rumble would mean that Edge is six months away from making his comeback. Of course, it's certainly possible that he'll return earlier than that. But again, there is on timetable on when he'll be back.

It was recently reported that WWE was planning to have Edge and Orton face off a third time at SummerSlam. That won't be the case now, but there will undoubtedly be a rematch once the Rated-R Superstar returns.

A Royal Rumble Return Would Be Epic

Edge's return at this year's Royal Rumble created one of the largest and most unforgettable crowd reactions ever. It would simply be incredible to have WWE double down and bring him back at next year's Royal Rumble, if the timing works out. Of course, if he's cleared to return much sooner than that, WWE may be keen on bringing him back well before the Royal Rumble.
