We're in an era where WWE superstars have little to no freedom in regards to the direction of their characters.

WWE chairman Vince McMahon and the creative team have been widely criticized for forcing scripted promos; very few superstars have the freedom to come up with their own promos.

You often hear stories about past and current superstars pitching ideas that get ignored and/or rejected by the higher-ups in WWE. AEW talents and former WWE superstars Jon Moxley and Matt Hardy have both expressed their frustrations with this.

But according to a report from Louis Dangoor of WrestleTalk, WWE actually listened to a strong pitch idea from two of the top stars on Monday Night Raw: Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley.

Sources told WrestleTalk that Lashley and McIntyre "pitched the idea of working together to higher-ups post-WrestleMania." The two squared off in a WWE Championship match at Backlash, where McIntyre emerged victorious to retain his title.

McIntyre and Lashley have a successful history of working together, having feuded in TNA on several occasions throughout 2015 and 2016. Dangoor's reported also noted that the two superstars "have enjoyed working together," and they were both confident in performing a quality match.

Former Raw Executive Director Paul Heyman (who was relieved of his duties last week) was "influential" in the McIntyre-Lashley program, according to Dangoor's report. Heyman was reportedly keen on giving Lashley a chance in the main event picture, too.

Lashley broke up with storyline wife Lana on this week's episode of Raw, and he'll continue to work with MVP, who's looking to build his faction even more. We'll find out in the coming weeks what WWE has in store next for Lashley and McIntyre.

WWE Should Listen To More Superstar Pitches

McIntyre and Lashley put together an excellent program on Raw, as they reportedly pushed for to WWE. The company should be listening to many more ideas from superstars going forward, because at the end of the day, they know what's best for them as wrestlers. Let's also hope that WWE continues the McIntyre-Lashley program, because they displayed remarkable in-ring work together, and it wouldn't make much sense to end the feud this quickly.
