Dominik Mysterio shook off an attack earlier in the evening to help his dad as he and Rey Mysterio became the first-ever father-son Tag Team Champions in WWE history.

WWE has been hyping the possibility of Rey and Dominik Mysterio becoming the first-ever father-son Tag Team Champions in company history for weeks. It felt like an inevitability by the time the match actually went down at WrestleMania Backlash. Well, it would have done had one last hurdle not been thrown in the Mysterio family's way.

Now-former champions Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode found Dominik before the match and attacked him. Right as he and his dad were due to go to the ring, the pair was shown in the trainer's room. Rey told Dominik not to worry and that he would handle the match by himself.

That proved to be just as high a mountain to climb as it seemed when Rey said it. With the odds stacked against him and defeat approaching, Dominik emerged from the back. Despite the fact he was clearly still hurting, he eventually managed to tag himself in. It took a while, but Dominik turned the tide in the match and alongside his Hall of Fame-worthy father, he became a Tag Team Champion in WWE for the first time.

Dominik won the match with a Frog Splash and he and Rey shared an emotional moment after the win. The two of them also cut a promo before heading backstage. Rey has said multiple times in interviews that despite everything he has achieved in his career, winning the Tag Team Championships alongside his son would be the proudest moment of his career should it ever happen.

As for how long the title reign will last, odds are it won't be a lengthy run. The feeling here is that WWE wanted to make a cool bit of history, and also give Rey Mysterio a special moment. Both of those things have now been achieved and another title change could well occur very soon. This could even mark the beginning of the end of Rey's in-ring career. There isn't much left for him to do at this point. The veteran has done just about everything.
