Rey Mysterio Might Be Interested In Joining AEW [Rumor]

Rey Mysterio has been a victim of questionable booking by WWE since he returned to the company last year, and at this rate, it's not crazy to envision him leaving for a rival promotion.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ringside News), Rey Mysterio would go to AEW "in a heartbeat,"should WWE continue "treat him like this." Meltzer also suggested AEW wouldn't "abuse" Mysterio, since some of the talents there "love him."

Last September, it was reported that WWE reached an agreement on a two-year contract with Mysterio. He rejoined WWE at the 2018 Royal Rumble pay-per-view, and Mysterio would compete on a part-time basis before signing a new deal with the company.

In his first stint with WWE, Mysterio spent plenty of time in the main event picture. At the very least, he was one of the main mid-card performers and won numerous Tag Team Championships as well as three Cruiserweight and two Intercontinental titles.

But WWE hasn't used Mysterio in the same capacity since his return. Aside from a brief United States Championship run, Mysterio has been booked in lackluster feuds and storylines. He was brutally attacked by Randy Orton and Samoa Joe during his programs with those two superstars, and not a whole lot of good came out of it for the Master of the 619.

Mysterio isn't the only superstar who's been linked to AEW. Among all WWE talents, Dolph Ziggler was recently listed as the betting favorite to leave for AEW. Meltzer also reported back in June that AEW could be a possibility for Rusev, who's dissatisfaction with WWE has been well-documented.

What This Means

Obviously, Vince McMahon doesn't want to lose anybody to AEW, especially a future Hall of Famer like Mysterio. But if WWE is going to mismanage him like this, then Mysterio will have good reason to leave for AEW. The company still has another year or so to change up their booking and convince him to stay long-term. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a surprise if he ended up in AEW.
