Rey Mysterio is fresh off a surprise appearance in the Royal Rumble, and while he may be facing Jushin “Thunder” Liger at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s ‘Strong Style Evolved’ show in Long Beach, it seems all but inevitable that he will be back with the WWE in 2018, so he joined Edge and Christian’s ‘Pod of Awesomeness’ to discuss all things WWE. He talked about how barely anyone knew about his shocking return, his desired dream matches if he were to return to WWE, and it was during that conversation that one very interesting name came up, Ricochet.

Just signed to NXT, Ricochet is widely regarded as the best high-flier in the world. But Mysterio took that a little bit further, calling Ricochet “quite possibly the best pro wrestler in the world today”. The two got the chance to work together in Lucha Underground, where Ricochet performed as Prince Puma, and after their fantastic matches together Ricochet talked to Mysterio and told him that he was his idol. That really started off what is now a great friendship and Rey can’t wait to see how he progresses in WWE.

During their chat, Mysterio also spoke very highly of Will Ospreay, Fenix and Pentagon, calling them future stars in wrestling, and while we’d never actively look to disagree with Mysterio, we couldn’t even begin to argue those points.

So there you have it guys, Rey Mysterio believes that Ricochet is quite possibly the greatest wrestler in the world today. Although we’ve got guys like Okada, Ospreay, Omega, Styles, Balor and Rollins, with a good showing in the WWE, it may be time to put The Future of Flight in that same category.

So what do you think? Is Mysterio maybe overhyping Ricochet on the eve of his NXT debut (which was just taped, and will be happening quite soon on TV)? Do you agree with Rey’s assessment of Ricochet? Who would you like to see him feud with in NXT? Let us know all your thoughts and ideas in the comment section below.
