After months of waiting and sporadic appearances by Rey Mysterio in WWE, the masked luchador legend has signed a deal with WWE full-time.
It was a deal that took far longer than anyone would have ever anticipated. Mysterio made his first return to WWE at the Royal Rumble and by all accounts, WWE was shocked to see just how popular his return was. Fans called for his return and WWE realized there was likely good money in bringing the former WWE Champion back on a more regular basis. But, months later, the two sides still couldn't seem to work out a longer-term deal that would see Mysterio part of the WWE full-time.
How many appearances Mysterio will make or what schedule he'll keep is unknown but Mike Jonhson, reporting for PW Insider, confirmed Mysterio has signed a two-year contract. Because Mysterio was only hoping to sign an 18-month deal, supposedly, a clause has been inserted into the new deal that'll allow Mysterio to hand in his notice after a year and a half elapses.
It was also reported that Mysterio is ready to roll on appearing for the company and is simply waiting for WWE to find a creative way to work him into a storyline. There's a better than good chance he'll debut prior to the Super Showdown in Australia setting up a match and it would make sense that he'll definitely be a part of the SmackDown 1000 episode. WWE recently teased a few dream match ideas for that card with Rey vs AJ Styles as an option.
This is great news for WWE fans and for Rey who at long last will get the chance to make one final run with a company who could definitely use his star presence. He got the flexibility he was looking for and WWE has unlimited match options for the master of the 6-1-9.
