Rich Swann has been removed from tonight's Slammiversary XVI card after suffering a head injury on Thursday.

WWE may have WrestleMania, but tonight Impact Wrestling is gearing up for its own biggest show of the year, Slammiversary. The event will be the sixteenth in the promotion's history and is set to be a pretty historic night. Austin Aries will defend the Impact World Title against Moose, Sami Callihan is going head to head with Pentagon Jr. in a mask versus hair match, and Madison Rayne will challenge Su Yung for the Knockouts Championship.

That's not all either. There's also a pretty interesting, and likely to be entertaining, fatal four-way match that was supposed to be taking place. Johnny Impact versus Ishimori versus Rey Fenix versus Rich Swann. Unfortunately, due to an injury suffered by Swann earlier this week, the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion is no longer able to compete at Slammiversary.

The Wrestling Observer has reported that Swann has been removed from tonight's card, however, it should be noted that neither Impact nor Swann has commented on the removal. That could mean that the promotion could spin the injury into some sort of angle. While it hasn't been confirmed, it's likely that the four-way will now simply become a triple threat between the remaining three competitors.

Swann suffered the injury that is going to keep him off of Slammiversary while competing at MLW Battle Riot on Thursday night. The former WWE Superstar hit his head on the guardrail and suffered a concussion. He was taken to hospital and Impact has been monitoring his condition ever since. Clearly, he has not yet completely recovered hence his removal from the four-way match later today.

Swann hasn't had the best of years for a number of reasons, some obvious and some not so much. Following his release from WWE, he actually told fans that he was planning on giving up wrestling altogether. Clearly, since then, he has had a change of heart. He has only been wrestling for Impact for around a month at the time of typing this though and will likely be extremely disappointed to miss out on the chance to wrestle at Slammiversary for the first time in his career.
