You might have assumed The Rock's pick for WWE's next big thing would be Roman Reigns, but that is not the case.

WWE has tended to have one big Superstar leading the way almost for as long as the company has existed. Bruno Sammartino was the first, then came Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold took over after that, and then John Cena is the most recent example. When you can track that trait back as far as we just have, it's actually a little worrying that we are still waiting for someone to take Cena's place.

Rumor has it that WWE no longer wants to have one or more Superstars that are bigger than the brand. Or perhaps the brand has reached a stage where that simply isn't possible. Either way, after having a formula that has worked so well for half almost half a century, you'd have thought WWE would be doing all that it can to crown its next king or queen.

There's an argument to be made that Vince McMahon has been trying to do that with Roman Reigns. If so, it would seem that The Rock believes the boss has been placing his faith in the wrong guy. A shocking revelation considering that guy is Rock's cousin. While talking with TMZ recently, The People's Champ revealed that the man who can follow in Cena's, and even his own footsteps is Drew McIntyre.

"He's got a great look and a great build, and especially as he continues to hone in on his craft and connect with the audience," Rock said, adding that he believes the connection with the audience is the most important thing. He also revealed that while on set with Reigns during Hobbs & Shaw, he and Reigns talked about everyone who has potential in WWE right now.

Clearly, the praise means a lot to McIntyre considering its source. The Scot responded to the comments, tweeting that it means a lot that Rock would talk about him while promoting a movie, and that everyone can learn a lot from the former WWE Champion's work ethic. We are also big fans of McIntyre, and once he escapes from under the thumb of Shane McMahon, we look forward to seeing how high he can really go.
