WWE originally planned to have The Rock win the 2019 men's Royal Rumble match and take on Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at WrestleMania 35.

When Roman Reigns announced to the world that he had leukemia, it left the wrestling business in a state of shock. It also led to a big shakeup in WWE. After revealing that he is battling leukemia, Reigns then had to relinquish the Universal Title. That's because, at this moment in time, there is no timeline when it comes to Reigns' recovery and return.

The immediate effect Reigns' departure had on the roster was obviously the need to crown a new champion on Raw. That honor has befallen the man Reigns took the title from, Brock Lesnar. Since Reigns is one of the most important Superstars in WWE right now, it's also highly likely Vince McMahon has The Bog Dog's road to WrestleMania planned out.

According to WrestleVotes, that was indeed the case. The Twitter account recently reported that Reigns was penciled in to battle his cousin The Rock at WrestleMania 35. The returning People's Champion would have won the 2019 men's Royal Rumble match and gone on to face Reigns for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 35. Due to Reigns illness, it is highly unlikely he'll be back in time for WrestleMania.

So what now? Well, WrestleVotes has speculated about what could take the original plan's place. The account tweeted that there's no reason to believe things won't go ahead as planned, but with Lesnar simply taking Reigns place. Perhaps we will see Rock return and win the Rumble, but then face The Beast Incarnate at WrestleMania 35. When it comes to star-studded WrestleMania main events, they don't get much bigger than that.

As always when it comes to The Rock's potential WWE returns, there are a lot of moving parts. The surefire WWE Hall Of Famer is one of Hollywood's busiest stars right now. Plus, there is the fact that he might well run for president in 2020. We hope to see him back in action for WWE in 2019, though. If he were to be in the Royal Rumble match, it would be his first bout for almost three years, and the first time he has been in a Royal Rumble since 2001.
