The three-team battle for the NXT Tag Team titles was already a great match before an unexpected swerve made the match even more memorable. Roderick Strong gave the NXT Universe a glimpse of how heel turns should be done when he turned on his partner Pete Dunne to help The Undisputed Era retain the titles and immediately following the pin, joined the trio as their newest member.

When Bobby Fish went down to an injury, there were rumors that, potentially, The Undisputed Era might look for a new member. To say that Strong was that guy they were looking for shocked everyone, including Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly who had stunned looks on their faces as Strong stepped over a prone Dunne, grabbed an armband and put it on, signifying he was switching sides – a turn of events Undisputed ERA was completely fine with. It left the Authors of Pain without a title and Dunne without a partner and as the segment faded, Strong and company stood atop the entryway together, signaling they were the faction to contend with going forward.

The question that will need to be answered on upcoming NXT programming is why?

Strong and Dunne were a team thrown together last minute but were a duo on fire, coming into NXT TakeOver: New Orleans as a team to worry about. It proved that those premonitions could be true as they hung in and eventually looked to have the match won. Shockingly, Strong climbed back in the ring after taking out one of the Authors of Pain, broke up Dunne's pin attempt only to attack him. He then moved O'Reilly into a position for the win and the referee counted to three.

This is now the second match win of the night for Adam Cole who successfully won the NXT North American Championship in the first match of the evening and chaotic six-person ladder match. He wasn't a factor in the tag match but it didn't matter since Strong helped secure the victory.

WWE asked on their Twitter feed, "what does this mean for the future of the NXT Tag Division?" I guess fans of NXT are about to find out.
