Roman Reigns could very well make history in a number of different ways if he headlines Extreme Rules this Sunday.

Even though WWE has reigned in the number of pay-per-views it puts on, there is still something that doesn't feel quite special or "big time" about Extreme Rules this Sunday. Nothing on the card is exactly groundbreaking and the multi-man match that was supposed to be headlining the event isn't even taking place. On the bright side, it's normally events like this that wind up being much better than average because expectations are so low.

In all fairness, Sunday night's card isn't as bad as we have made it sound. The Ironman match between Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins will be an instant classic, plus by the end of the night Team Hell No could be the SmackDown Tag Team Champions. What most fans are dreading is the possibility of Bobby Lashley and Roman Reigns closing the show, and at this point, it seems to be an inevitability.

If the inevitable does take place on Sunday and Reigns headlines Extreme Rules, he will be making history in a number of ways as pointed out by What Culture in the video below. The Big Dog will have been involved in a pay-per-view show-closing match for the 27th time in his career, ranking him eleventh overall. One more pay-per-view main event and he will be tied with Brock Lesnar, providing that main event isn't against The Beast Incarnate of course.

While that will put Reigns ahead of former Superstars such as Kurt Angle, Edge, and even Bret Hart, he still has a long way to go to make it to the top of the chart. John Cena currently holds that honor with an amazing 72 PPV main events to his name. If Lashley and Reigns do headline they will be making history in another way too. Their match will be the first Extreme Rules main event to not have any sort of stipulation attached to it.

If you are planning on watching Extreme Rules this Sunday then we would recommend you brace yourselves for the potential main event. There will be some good matches on the show, and Lashley versus Reigns may even be one of them, but if it closes the show then the crowd isn't going to care about that minor detail. Every PPV feels like the end of Reigns' push, but in reality, it would appear that it has no end.
