Fans notice when a wrestler is wearing a trendy pair of sneakers; at least the sneakerheads in the WWE Universe do. Roman Reigns shows up to work in sneakers at times and appears to be partial to Jordans.
The WWE Universal Champion switched up his customary attire for his match against Braun Strowman at Fastlane in 2017, going from nine-inch boots to the Nike SFB Canvas.
The SFBs are basically boots but Roman wore them so their white soles would match the trim on his black vest. He also had to get ankle braces for extra reinforcement.
Fans took notice of the change, much to Reigns' surprise.
“No, I didn’t expect all the sneakerheads to come out and really kind of see that and talk about it," he told Complex. "The main thing for me is the regular boots that I wear, they come up a bit higher. They’re like an eight-inch, nine-inch that comes up right below the calf.
“I had to kind of put in ankle braces and make it work for me for the performance. But, man, they felt good, they felt lighter. The sole was a bit more cushiony. Those Nike boots are nice, too, that I wear. But, man, the white soles, I think that’s a classic look. I don’t think it’s ever going out of style.”
Why He Never Brought It Back
Reigns had to ditch the look right after, however. While he was very pleased with it, he says someone who's very important at WWE was not.
“I pretty much matched up my soles because I’ll wear different colors with the black," he explained. "I had white on the vest and gloves and stuff, and they had a white trim on it. I matched it up [with white soles] and I thought it looked sweet! One person didn’t and he’s a very important person, so…”
Whether or not that person is Vince McMahon is left up to us to guess.
