Barring a change of mind from Dean Ambrose, The Lunatic is set to leave WWE when his contract expires after WrestleMania 35.

WWE released a statement in January that confirmed Ambrose's decision to part ways with the company. So unless the former WWE Champion decides to stay after all, the promotion stands to lose one of its top talents.

Roman Reigns is set to reform The Shield with Ambrose and Seth Rollins at Sunday's Fastlane pay-per-view - which could mark the final time we see the iconic stable compete together.

Reigns, of course, only returned to WWE last week after revealing that his Leukemia is in remission. It ended a four-month hiatus for The Big Dog, who is gearing up for one last short run with his long-time friend and Shield counterpart.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Reigns sounded off on Ambrose's decision to leave the WWE. Although Reigns is predictably disappointed that one of his closest friends is leaving, he also understands that it's strictly part of being in the business.

"I know one thing, he just wants to be happy. He's kind of been preparing for when he doesn't have to rely on anybody..

It still is a big shock and we haven't had much time to talk about it because we've been on the gas pedal since I've been back...the last thing I want is for one of my good friends to leave but as long as he's happy and healthy we'll be good.

We'll still talk all the time but this is WWE and you never know what's going to happen."

It's been reported that Reigns is going to try and persuade Ambrose to stay. But so far, the indications are that Ambrose is indeed leaving the WWE to explore other opportunities. PWInsider.com reported that Ambrose rejected a five-year contract worth seven figures annually, so money obviously isn't a factor here.

PW Torch initially reported that Ambrose was planning to leave after WrestleMania, with one unnamed superstar saying that he grew tired of portraying a "hokey" gimmick. Obviously, WWE has plenty of persuading and negotiating to do if they want to find a way to keep Ambrose on board.

What This Means

If Ambrose leaves, he'll become the hottest free agent in the wrestling world. All Elite Wrestling will most definitely come calling, and they may manage to make Ambrose an offer he can't refuse. WrestleMania 35 is only a month away, so we'll find out before long if Ambrose decides at the last minute to sign a new deal with WWE. Stay tuned.
